I have led a wide variety of tours in Shanghai and the surrounding areas over the past five years. Often these begin with a brief overview of the city’s history with an emphasis on architecture. We may start on the Bund to explore the city’s most impressive waterfront buildings, then continue into the old Chinese City and French Concession to walk amongst its hybrid residential structures. Tour groups may wish to amend this general schedule to focus upon different sub-categories of the city’s architecture or history; e.g. Shanghai’s art colony, Jewish Hongkou, the Urban Planning Institute, Pudong, etc. My artistic, renovation, language, and architecture activities provide a wealth of subject matter to discuss with visitors. I am also well-versed in business and financial issues and have written newspaper and magazine articles as well as guide book chapters.
Groups have been as small as two or as large as fifty people, with talks in English, Japanese, French, and both Mandarin and Shanghainese. Tour lengths have varied from a half-day to a full week. We have traveled in private cars, busses of all sizes, on foot and by train, subway, and taxi. I have also given talks and lectures to a range of local and visiting organizations. In addition to normal tour services I often take groups to unusual restaurants and markets, where my extensive knowledge of the local dialect helps considerably.
Recently I have helped form LUXURY CONCIERGE CHINA, a company which provides complete Shanghai experiences, including hotels, restaurants, shopping, tours, and lectures.
